  This time of year often comes with invitations, obligations, and a to-do list longer than a 5-year-old’s wish list. That also means stress and overwhelm. We may want to do everything and go everywhere, but is that realistic? Here are some tips:   Use a Calendar. Look at the month. How many days/nights can you realistically attend events? Block off work, time for self and rest, errands & personal to-do’s, and then decide which events, family functions, etc. you will attend. Prioritize invites. What are the events that you really WANT to go to. Just because you’ve ALWAYS had pajama night at Aunt Betty’s house on Christmas Eve doesn’t mean you have to go. One of the great freedoms of being an adult is making your own decisions. It may not be the popular choice but if it’s right for you, then it’s a good one. Decline with Grace. You may be left feeling guilty for not attending Aunt Betty’s PJ party and that’s understandable. If you feel it necessary, send a gift in lieu of attending. Flowers, edible treats or something for the home is a nice way of showing your appreciation without having to attend in person. Go Online. Make a list of everyone or everything you need to purchase (including hosts). Then sit down (at a previously scheduled time – see item #1) with snacks and a beverage and shop. Most retailers have good prices and special deals now. Some stores will gift wrap items for you, too. And best of all, you can have things shipped directly to the receiver to save you even more time. Have fun. The bottom line is this season should be fun. Enjoy the time with family and friends.
