Vendor Spotlight: Dr. Nicole Zyla-Herrera with Precision Care Chiropractors

Each week, we spotlight one of our favorite vendors. While you can always see our complete list of names, categories, and contact information here (constantly updated!), these emails will give you a deeper understanding of who these people and businesses really are. This week, get to know more about our friend and client Dr. Nicole-Zyla Herrera with Precision Care Chiropractic.

What is your consultation process like with a new client?
I provide a complimentary consultation for all potential new patients. I spend about 20 minutes discussing their health concerns. At that time, I let them know if chiropractic would be a good fit. If not, I refer them to the appropriate practitioner.

We posted about your June special for kids on our Facebook page. Tell us a little more about this.
A lot of people don’t yet know the benefits of having children checked by the chiropractor. The procedures are safe and gentle. We help kids with headaches, allergies, ear infections, and many other conditions. Many conditions we suffer from as adults probably started as children. Imagine what your life would be like now if you had resolved your problem as a child.

What is something we can do on our own to improve our spinal health?
Spinal health is so important! The job of the spine is to protect the nervous system. We now know that the nervous system controls every function of your body. Remember, your spine is irreplaceable. It is so important to watch your posture. Your grandmother was right. Stand up straight. Your posture is both conscious and unconscious so you can literally retrain your posture. The best sleeping positions are flat on your back or on your side with a properly fitted cervical pillow. Also, if you work at a computer, the best thing you can do is get up and take stretching breaks throughout the day.

What sets you apart from others in your industry?
I am the only board-certified chiropractor to use the Atlas Orthogonal technique in Middle TN. A.O. is a specialized technique of the upper neck. A thorough evaluation is performed including a computerized nervous system scan and specialized x-rays. Once evaluated, a specialized instrument is used to deliver the adjustment to the upper neck. Very minimal force is used and you really don’t even feel the adjustment. We don’t do any cracking, popping, or twisting of the back in our office. This technique has been featured on the Montel Williams Show and The Doctors. This technique has shown to be effective treatment for headaches, migraines, sinus problems, numbness and tingling, chronic fatigue, fibromyalgia, and MS.

There are a lot of misconceptions about chiropractors. How would you respond to that?
I think the biggest problem we have is our lack of educating the community about what we do. Dentists have done a great job of educating the community on the importance of semi-annual teeth cleanings and dental health in general. Chiropractors have not done this. But I hope to change that. Your body is like a machine that needs regular maintenance to run optimally.

What do you love the most about your job?
I love being able to help those who had lost hope of restoring their health.

Switching gears… Where do you live? What do you like about that area of town?
I grew up in Michigan and then moved here from Phoenix area 2 years ago. I love how friendly everyone is here in Nashville. I also enjoy the community feel here. This area is growing so quickly and I can’t wait to experience all the new changes.

What’s your favorite way to spend a weekend in Nashville?
My husband, Simon, and I enjoy exploring different areas of town and trying new restaurants. We are also avid sports fans and really enjoy that. In the evenings, we like to explore and find new and upcoming music.

What is your favorite local business?
8th & Roast- for coffee
Fido or the Pharmacy- for food

We’ve got some of Dr. Nicole’s favorite tunes below, as well as a tweet from her account today with a link to her article published in the Tennessean! (If you have trouble seeing either, try refreshing your page.) When you’re ready to take the next steps with spinal health, check out Precision’s website and give Dr. Nicole a call at (615) 807-2682 to get started.
